Protect Birds and Boost Ecotourism - JAAN and Pejarakan Village Join Forces
Pejarakan Village in West Bali, in collaboration with JAAN Indonesia, has issued a landmark advisory banning the capture, keeping, and trade of protected wild birds while promoting birdwatching and sustainable ecotourism.

Pejarakan, August 15, 2025 – The Pejarakan Village Government has issued an official advisory banning the capture, keeping, and trade of protected wild birds. The measure aims to safeguard local wildlife and preserve the balance of the natural ecosystem.
The advisory refers to national conservation law and ministerial regulations listing protected species, including the critically endangered Bali Starling (Leucopsar rothschildi), the Crested Serpent Eagle (Spilornis cheela), and other species at risk.

Head of Pejarakan Village, I Made Astawa.NL.P.CPM, stated:
"We strongly support the initiatives of Jaringan Satwa Indonesia in collaboration with Pejarakan Village, especially those involving the children of our village to learn about local ecosystems, both marine and terrestrial. As a government institution, and personally, I highly appreciate these efforts and hope that our ecosystem will be well preserved, with the entire community not only complying with this ban but also actively participating in conservation efforts."

Birdwatching Guide Training in Pejarakan
As part of the collaboration, JAAN organized a birdwatching guide training in Pejarakan. The program engaged local youth and women, providing skills in bird identification, guiding techniques, and eco-tourism promotion.
The initiative aims to develop trained local guides, create birdwatching trails, and strengthen Pejarakan’s potential as a sustainable and eco-friendly tourism destination.
